Decubitus ulcers: Prevention of decubitus ulcers is more important and much cheaper than its therapy. The rate of avoidance can reach 90% by using the right medical products. Bedsore occurs by long-term pressure onto the skin. A permanent pressure relief highly reduces the risk of an onset. The risk grows by the age of the patient. Immobility and bad nutrition support the onset of a bedsore.
AirMed® anti-bedsore systems, distributed by the AirMedPLUS GmbH, are allocating the pressure more evenly and will help you and your patients for a better life!

The Airmed® ThermOPlus® OP-System, distributed by the AirMed PLUS GmbH, is designed to avoid decubitus ulcers already during an operation by increasing the contact of the skin surface with the mattress. The patient lies on and even “in” a soft air-filled mattress. The pressure in the mattress can be adjusted according to the patient’s weight. The inflated air in the system is filtered by an activated carbon filter that filtrates 99,5% of bacteria and viruses. A dust filter in front of the activated carbon filter separates dust and other small parts in the air. Both filters can be changed easily by the operator.
A lot of patients complain about being cold after they wake up from anaesthesia. In this context, a main advantage of ThermOPlus is that the inflated air can be heated up to 40 °C, measured at the outgoing of the turbine. A specially developed micro-controller drives the power of the turbine and controls it for the adequate and constant value that was set up by the operator. A temperature sensor is located at the inflating stream and shuts down the heating when a fault is detected or the sensor is disconnected. A very important advantage of warming a patient during the operation is that the ventilation of the patient after an operation can be reduced. This reduction of intensive care saves a lot of money per day for the hospital.
The mattress is made up of polyurethane with a knit fabric inside and is covered with a breathable but waterproof eudermic fabric that is stretchable in all directions. The fabric and the mattress are easy to clean by wipe-disinfection or in a washer with special detergent at 60 °C. Unintended cuttings into the mattress and the mattress covers can be repaired easily by sewing or by high-frequency sealing, so that the system is adapted for long-term use. The mattress can be simply fixed with Velcro® strips under the operation table.
The mattress is connected to the aggregate by one inflating special tube in the middle and two deflating special tubes on the left and on the right of the middle one. The tubes can be connected easily by a quarter turn (bayonet connectors). The aggregate can be placed comfortably under the operation table. The aggregate has wheels and a telescopic handhold to move it rapidly from one operating room to another.
As a special accessory a mattress for urological operations is available. Please check the size in the data sheet. The system is fitted with an elapsed hour counter.
The use of ThermOPlus reduces the pressure values up to 56%, verified by the test laboratory for medical devices of the Technical University Berlin. Please call for certificate.
